FAQ Friday

Who is SIM and why have you chosen to go through them, especially when your denomination has its own mission board?

Let me deal with the latter part of that question first. There are a couple of reasons that we chose not to be missionaries through the International Mission Board.

1. We do not have and do not have the option of a seminary education that is required by the IMB

2. God sent us to SIM. He has called us to the Loja region of Ecuador, a place where the IMB no longer are. At this time, SIM is the only agency in Loja, and that is the place God has called us to.

Our family is deeply loyal to, and supportive of our denomination's mission board. It is one of the best in the world, and we have been proud to pray for and financially support its missionaries. We will continue to do so even while we are on the field.

Now- I want to tell you about SIM because it is an exciting and relevant mission agency that we feel very honored to be a part of.

SIM stands for Serving in Missions, and many of you mission buffs will recognize SIM because of the former name, "Sudan Interior Missions".

Very specifically, SIM is:
an international and interdenominational mission organization with more than 1600 active missionaries serving in over 40 countries. SIM members serve God among many diverse people groups in Africa, Asia, along with South America. SIM members are "international" themselves, representing over 30 nationalities.

Let me break that down for you.

SIM is our sending agency. It is the organization that will guide us, train us, and oversee us while we are on the field. They have an organizational structure that will prevent us from going "rogue". They have strict principles of biblical principles that we have agreed to and will abide by. You can read more about SIM's statement of faith HERE.

SIM is interdenominational. This means that they accept missionaries from may different evangelical denominations. Dustan and I will be working alongside missionaries who come from many different church backgrounds. We are excited about this. We believe that it mirrors God's plan for His church- that we be unified in both our faith, and in the work we do in Hs name throughout the world.

SIM is international. They send missionaries from the four corners of the earth- even Ecuador! We will be working with missionaries that come from Germany, Switzerland, New Zealand, Australia, Great Britain, and many others. Again, we are excited about this aspect.
We have seen first hand how such a diverse community reflects the strength and unity of the Church. We are overjoyed to be working with such a unique body as we serve God in Loja, Ecuador.

SIM has a ministry that is worldwide. This is not as important for us as it is for you. Se, we only need them to serve in Loja, Ecuador, because that is where God has called US to serve. But- the fact that they serve so many others is god news for YOU, because it is very likely that if God is calling you overseas (and we pray he is/does) that SIM is serving there.
